An Agua Fresca is the perfect refreshing drink! Made with just three simple ingredients and water, and in so many different flavors, you will want this all summer long.

I love the simplicity of an agua fresca. A popular drink in Mexico, hopped fruit, sugar, and lime juice come together in a blender with some water, and makes for the most refreshing drink. The fact that you can make this in so many different flavors makes it even better.
While the ratio of fruit, water, lime, and sugar varies, I have found that the ratio I have listed here is really perfect, regardless of the fruit you are using. You will love this simple drink.

Agua Fresca Ingredients
Agua fresca is incredibly simple to make and easy to customize based on what you have on hand or what flavors you’re craving. From strawberry agua fresca, to watermelon agua fresca, to a combination of multiple fruits, a batch of refreshing agua frescas is sure to quench your thirst and treat your taste buds. Be sure to scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full recipe, which includes all measurements.
- Fresh fruit: The heart of any agua fresca, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, pineapple, mango, and even cucumber are all popular choices. Use one type of fruit or blend a few together for a unique flavor combo.
- Sugar: While this drink is naturally sweet thanks to the fruit, a little bit of sugar acts as a bonus sweetener.
- Lime juice: Fresh lime juice brightens the drink, balances the sweetness with just the right amount of tang, and enhances the flavor.
- Water: Helps thin out the blended fruit. You can adjust the amount based on how thick or light you want your drink to be.

How to Make Agua Fresca
Here is a brief overview of how this agua fresca recipe comes together. For the full recipe, including all measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Blend the ingredients. Blend everything together in a large blender, using just one tablespoon of sugar.
- Taste and add more sugar if needed.
- Strain and enjoy! Strain through a fine mesh sieve or strainer. Pour over ice and enjoy! I love to garnish my glasses with a piece of fruit and some fresh mint.

The Best Blender!

Straining the liquid through a metal sieve helps to make a smoother drink. It is completely optional, but I find it yields the best results. If you enjoy the pulp you can blend everything until smooth and enjoy it from there.

Adjusting The Flavor
Regardless of the ripeness of fruit, I have found that two tablespoons of sugar is really perfect. That being said, you may find that you want to start with just one tablespoon and add more depending on your taste.
Since some fruits are already acidic (like pineapples, grapefruits, and some oranges), you may find that starting out with just 1/2 a tablespoon of lime juice is your best bet. Regardless of what I’m blending, I love the full tablespoon of lime juice in my aguas frescas.
