Chex Mix is the perfect snack mix recipe for a party, movie night, or snacks throughout the week. Our family can’t get enough of this delicious recipe!

Our family is very fond of snacking. Like if there was a snacking Olympics, we would gold medal in every event and be just the happiest people ever.
I originally made this Chex Mix recipe for an outdoor movie night in the summertime, and it was a huge hit. We love to hang a big tarp off our deck and project a movie on to it to have an outdoor movie night. It’s the best. But really, this is a great recipe for the whole year, perfect for game days, family movie nights, and hiking adventures.
How to Make Chex Mix
It’s so easy to throw together this yummy snack for any occasion! Be sure to check out the recipe card below for exact measurements but here’s all you need to do:
- Prepare a baking sheet . Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
- Mix together the dry ingredients. Combine the Chex cereal, crackers, pretzels, rye chips and nuts together in a bowl.
- Mix together the wet ingredients. Melt the butter and add Worcestershire sauce and seasonings in another bowl.
- Combine the ingredients together. Pour the butter mixture over all the yummy crunchy ingredients and mix well.
- Bake low and slow. Bake at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for an hour, but make sure to toss or stir the Chex mix every 15 minutes or so.
- Serve warm or store. You can serve the Chex mix immediately for a warm treat, or store it tightly covered for up to a week.

Chex Mix Ingredients
This is a deliciously savory Chex Mix recipe, and you can play around with the ingredients and seasonings depending on what you have on hand. But for this recipe try these:
- Chex Cereal: Read more on this below.
- Rye chips: These are my absolutely favorite. You may know them from snack mixes, but they are also sold on their own. You can find them near that snack mix they are found in.
- Mini pretzels: These are very easy to find in your local grocery store. I especially love when I can find super mini pretzels for this.
- Oyster crackers: Often served with soup, these are perfect in Chex mix.
- Peanuts: These are great for adding little protein crunch to your Chex mix, but if you have someone in your life with a peanut allergy, they can easily be left out and replaced with more of something else.
- Melted unsalted butter: This is the base of the sauce. Given the saltiness of everything else we are adding, I would recommend only using unsalted butter.
- Worcestershire sauce: This is like a wonder sauce that adds so much great flavor.
- Seasoning Salt: If you aren’t able to find this in your local super market, you can make your own .
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder

Chex Mix Seasoning
The sauce for this recipe is out of this world! The Worcestershire sauce gives it a rich, deep flavor, with just enough of a kick. It’s salty but not too salty, with the perfect blend of onion and garlic flavors. While you can easily switch up the cereal and other snacks in this recipe, I would leave the sauce just as written.
Chex Cereal
Chex Cereal comes in so many different varieties these days. They have rice Chex, wheat Chex, corn Chex, and several others. This is a really easy recipe to customize to what your family prefers most.
Mix it Up
If you don’t have these exact ingredients, but still have the munchies, don’t worry! Scavenge through your pantry for ideas to add. Whatever ingredients you take out of the original recipe, replace with the same amount of one the following.
- Cheese crackers
- Cheerios
- Almonds
- Cashews
- Bagel chips
- Small bread sticks
- Popcorn
- Bite Size crackers like Ritz, goldfish crackers or wheat thins

How to Make Chex Mix in the Slow Cooker
Homemade Chex Mix can even be made in the Crock Pot! This is a terrific idea if you are using your oven for other dishes or want to leave it unattended for a little while.
- Combine all of the ingredients together in the slow cooker and mix well.
- Cook on high for 2 hours, stirring every 20 minutes.
How to Store
This is amazing when served warm, but you can also store it at room temperature in a tightly covered container. It’ll stay nice and fresh for up to a week. I have had readers ask if this can be frozen, and it absolutely can. This recipe will store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to three months.
Special Dietary Needs
Glute Free Chex Mix: This recipe as written is not gluten free. You can definitely find ingredients, such as the cereal and crackers, to make it gluten free, but keep in mind you will also need to find gluten free Worcestershire sauce.
Vegan Chex Mix: To make this recipe vegan, you will need to replace the butter with vegan butter and you will need to omit the Worcestershire sauce or use a vegan alternative .
Nut Free Chex Mix: You an absolutely make this recipe nut free. Simply leave out the peanuts and replace them with more crackers or other ingredients.
