Is there anything better than mixing some ranch seasoning with some sour cream and making a super simple vegetable dip? Well, yes. The answer is yes. Because what’s better than that is when you make the ranch seasoning yourself.
Homemade ranch seasoning has the most perfect flavor and is so easy to make. You will love including it in so many different recipes.

Homemade Ranch Seasoning Ingredients
Here are the simple ingredients that make up this homemade seasoning. For the full recipe including all measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Buttermilk powder: Provides the creamy, slightly sour flavor found in traditional ranch dressing without the need for fresh buttermilk. You can typically find this in the baking aisle of your grocery store and it will last for months in your refrigerator. You can also use it to make my Buttermilk Waffles .
- Onion powder: Be sure to use onion powder, not onion salt.
- Dried dill weed : A signature herb in ranch seasoning, dill gives a fresh, earthy note that complements the tangy and creamy flavors.
- Dried parsley : Adds a subtle herbal flavor to the seasoning.
- Garlic powder : Adds a mild but rich garlicky flavor that rounds out the taste of the ranch seasoning. Be sure to use garlic powder and not garlic salt.
- Salt and pepper

How to Make Homemade Ranch Seasoning
Here is how simply this homemade ranch seasoning mix comes together. Be sure to scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full list of ingredients and their measurements.
- Combine ingredients. Whisk together all of the ingredients together in a bowl until well combined.
- Use or store for later. You can use this seasoning right away, or store it in an airtight container in a dark place for up to six months.
Fresh vs Dried Herbs
When making homemade ranch seasoning mix, it’s best to use dried herbs instead of fresh because dried herbs have a more concentrated flavor and longer shelf life. Fresh herbs contain water, which can cause the seasoning to spoil quickly. Dried herbs also blend more evenly into the seasoning, making sure you get the right balance of flavor throughout the mix. This makes your dry ranch seasoning mix easier to store and use whenever you need it, without worrying about it losing its potency.

Ideas For Use
- Make a ranch dip for vegetables by combining a few teaspoons with a cup of sour cream.
- Use it in a recipe like my Chicken Bacon Ranch Casserole .
- Add it to burgers or chicken.
- Toss it with freshly popped popcorn.
- Season vegetables or French fries.
- Use 3 tablespoons of this recipe in any place that calls for a packet of ranch seasoning.
