There is nothing worse than getting everything out for a recipe and realizing that you don’t have an ingredient you need. If that is the case with self-rising flour, I have the perfect solution for you. A simple combination of all purpose flour, baking powder, and salt and you will be able to make the perfect substitute for self rising flour for your recipe.

Self-Rising Flour Ingredients

Just three ingredients are needed to make your own self-rising flour substitute for the store-bought version. Be sure to scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full list of ingredients and their measurements.

  • All purpose flour
  • Baking powder: The leavening agent that gives the baked goods their rise. Be sure you use fresh baking powder. You can test it by mixing a little bit with some water; it should bubble up right away. If it doesn’t, toss it and get new baking powder.
  • Salt

How to Use Self-Rising

The number one way I use this recipe is in my easy beer bread recipe . It makes it an insanely quick recipe that you will absolutely love.

If you want to use this in a recipe that doesn’t specifically call for self-rising flour, look for a recipe that uses 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of baking powder per cup of flour. Then replace the all-purpose flour with this one for one and omit the baking powder and the salt from the recipe.

It is important to note that if the recipe also calls for baking soda that should be left in.
