This four ingredient Pork Rub is made with seasonings you already have in your pantry. It is simple to throw together but brings out the flavor in pork recipes perfectly!

Our family loves making our own seasoning mixes. They are typically made with ingredients we have on hand, and we can control everything from heat to salt. They are also perfect for people who are following specialty diets because you know exactly what is in them.
This simple Pork Rub recipe, is just that, an uncomplicated recipe that is easy to adjust to your family. Or you can use it as is and pair it perfectly with our Homemade BBQ Sauce .
How to Make Pork Rub
- Measuring the seasonings. You will need brown sugar, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Whisk them together.
- Use the seasoning mix. We most frequently use this recipe on ribs and as a pulled pork rub, but you can use it in any pork recipe. It would make an excellent pork chop rub.

How to Use Pork Rub
This makes more than enough for a 5 pound pork shoulder or two 3 1/2 pound rack of ribs. It is the perfect dry rub for pork ribs and a great pork butt rub.
Sprinkle the rub onto the meat in generous amounts, and rub it into the meat. I like to sprinkle, rather than using my fingers to scoop it out of the container. That way you aren’t transferring bacteria from the meat into the rub and leftovers can be saved.
We most love this pork rub in our Crock Pot Ribs and BBQ Pulled Pork .

When to Use the Rub
Rub the seasoning mix into the pork 2 to 24 before cooking. Wrap the meat and then refrigerate until cooking.
Some BBQ experts suggest that the best way to use a dry rub is to apply it to the meat and then let the meat stand for an hour before cooking.
While that method might ensure the best flavor, it isn’t practical for a lot of home cooks. I find my method of adding this rub the night before cooking works to create an amazing flavor.

If you want to make a big batch of this, you can store the excess in an air tight container in a dark space (such as a pantry) for up to six months.
I don’t measure when I use this recipe. I use enough that I am able to rub into and coat the full surface of the meat.
Yes! But I also have a chicken rub that I really like.
