My husband and I were just talking the other day about how we got by with mainly main dishes for dinner for so long, but now with older kids, it just doesn’t cut it. We officially need a full spread at dinner time.

About two seconds later, we got a text from our oldest who just finished a workout asking what was for dinner and telling us he’d need double helpings. Teens are so great to cook for.

This sirloin tip roast is perfect if you have a hungry crowd on your hands. It is so easy to make, but makes a lot of helpings and is so delicious. Pair it with some of our favorite easy sides (you can see the full list at the bottom of the post), and you will have a happy and satisfied crowd.

How to Cook a Sirloin Tip Roast

Here is a brief overview of how this recipe for sirloin tip roast comes together. For the full recipe including all measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Season the roast. Combine the salt, parsley, rosemary, thyme, and pepper in a small bowl. Cover the sirloin tip roast in olive oil, then fresh garlic, then rub the herb mixture all over it.
  • Bake the roast. Place it on the rack inside the roasting pan. Bake until the internal temperature reaches 135 degrees Fahrenheit. Read more on this below.
  • Slice and enjoy! Let the roast sit for about 10 minutes to allow the juices to settle. Slice and enjoy!

Searing in the Oven

Cuts of meat like this are better when they get a good sear on them and then are is cooked low and slow. In this recipe, we are doing that in the oven, which is such a favorite method of mine. We set the oven really high for the first 15 minutes, which creates the sear and then we cook the sirloin tip roast the rest of the way at a lower temperature.

Using a Roasting Pan

Using a roasting pan with a rack like the one linked below helps achieve an evenly cooked, tender, and flavorful roast. It allows air to circulate around the sirloin tip roast while it cooks and catches any drippings. I linked one that I have and love in the box below, or you can simply put a wire rack in your baking dish.

How Long to Cook Roast

Since roasts vary in size and ovens vary in temperature, it is best to use an instant read meat thermometer to know exactly when to take your roast out of the oven. It should be cooked to 135 degrees Fahrenheit to be considered fully cooked for food safety purposes, yet still juicy and tender.

Storing and Reheating Leftovers

Leftover sirloin roast can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat only the portion you plan to eat in the oven or microwave on half power until heated through. Leftover roast would make delicious sandwiches! Always use your best discretion when storing and eating leftovers.
