You know how much I love a delicious gin and tonic, however, I know so many of you just can’t do gin. It’s okay, we can still be friends.

This perfect vodka tonic is just for you. It only takes three simple ingredients, but is so crisp and refreshing. This will become a regular for your Friday evenings.

Vodka Tonic Ingredients

Just three ingredients combine to make this simple classic cocktail, two of them being in the title of the drink! For the measurements of each ingredient, see the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Vodka: Using a high-quality vodka is very important since this is a vodka-forward cocktail. See what vodka I recommend for cocktails below.
  • Tonic water: Tonic water is a carbonated soft drink that contains quinine, giving it a slightly bitter taste. Its flavor complements the vodka and the carbonation adds a refreshing quality to the drink.
  • Limes: Adds a burst of citrus flavor and pop of color. Serve with more lime wedges as desired.

I recommend Grey Goose or Belvedere for this recipe. If you are on a budget, you may consider trying Costco’s Kirkland brand vodka. It often beats high end vodka in blind taste tests, and it is rumored to be a high quality vodka that is sold under the wholesale label. The most important thing is to use a vodka that you enjoy the flavor of.

How to Make a Vodka Tonic

  • Prepare your glass. Rim the glass with a lime wedge and fill it with ice.
  • Add the vodka. Then top with fresh tonic water.

The Perfect Ratio

When a cocktail is made with just a few ingredients, in addition to the quality of the ingredients, the ratio is also important. With a ratio of two ounces of vodka to four ounces of tonic water, the cocktail is perfectly balanced. Of course you can play around with the ratio to make a stronger or weaker vodka tonic.

How to Serve

Serve your vodka and tonic in a tumbler with lots of ice. Garnish the cocktail with lime wedges or slices. Start with two and add more for an extra citrus punch. I like to squeeze the lime wedges into the cocktail to get the most from them. Use fresh tonic water that is chilled for optimal carbonation.
